Mardi Gras

Each year we have a day working with the church and chapel to learn more about Easter. This year our focus is Lent.  So on Tuesday 9th February we celebrated Mardi Gras.  At school the children made costumes with the scrap store and masks with Mrs MacMeekin.  In the chapel they made junk instruments and learnt samba rhythms.  In the church they learn about why people celebrate Mardi Gras around the world and thought about what they would promise over Lent.  Although the highlight for some was eating pancakes!

In the afternoon Revd MacMeekin led a service at the chapel where we thought about the masks we had made and how Lent is a time to take off our masks and think about who we really are.  Then to finish we marched back to school all playing our samba rhythms- maybe you heard us!

Over the next few weeks we will be learning about Lent in class and in Collective Worship. We are following 40Acts.  To find out more go to www.40acts.org.uk .
