PE & Sport Premium Statement
The government is continuing to provide additional funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.
For the academic year 2024-25 this funding was £16,690. The reporting of how this grant has been spent has changed this year. Below you will find the five sections of our submission.
The motto that underpins our aim to encourage all children to engage in an active lifestyle is: 'more children active more of the time'. This extra funding enables us to do this by being able to offer a greater range of sports opportunities for participation and competition and specialist PE coaching for all children as well as additional equipment and swimming as well as professional development for our staff team.
During 2024/25 we have attended a number of inter-school events at Kingsbury Green Academy, Abbeyfield School, Hilmarton Primary School and three County finals, winning gold in the New Age Kurling as well as providing after-school clubs and focused lunchtime provision all at no cost to our parents to encourage active participation. Children with additional needs are specifically supported as well as those with other forms of disadvantage and those who excel. Our Year 6 cohort missed swimming opportunities during the pandemic, had a high level of additional need and had a high percentage of non-swimmers in Year 5 but they had more access to swimming lessons and made good progress. The girls have been a particular focus this year. Many of our events have been part of the School Games offer and, having been awarded a Bronze last year, we have now been regraded and awarded the Silver School Games Award. The summary statement about our award states;
St Nicholas do all they can to engage and take part in all offers of physical activity. I am upgrading them from Bronze to Silver because of their commitment and ambition to school sport, physical activity and wellbeing. For a very small school, transport and staffing can be a real issue but, nevertheless, they will attend festivals, competitions and CPD more than most other schools. (Phil Smith, SGO)
