Meet the teachers

Mrs Clare Kitts - Headteacher

I am immensely proud of being Headteacher of our school having worked here as a teacher since 2012 and getting to know the families and the wider community. From the first day I arrived at St Nic's in 2010 (on placement as part of my training), I felt a warmth and family feeling which I aim to continue to nurture.

Before retraining as a primary school teacher, I managed indoor and outdoor sports and leisure facilities and a water park then lectured in higher education where I developed an appreciate of lifelong learning and the benefits of challenge when learning.  In this previous career I successfully completed mu under-gradutate degree, a post- graduate diploma in Management Studies and a Masters degree in Leisure and Tourism. Since qualifying as a teacher, I completed a Masters' degree in Education Practice and successfully completed the Headship qualification (NPQH) but, fortunately, every day continues to be a learning day.  Throughout my careers, I have had a passion for working to ensure equality of opportunity whether that be access to sporting or educational opportunities on a global and local scale.

Since becoming a teacher, I have developed a firm understanding of the value of play, particularly in the early years, and outdoor learning throughout a child's primary schooling.  My early interest in active leisure and a lifelong love of exercise fuels my enthusiasm for keeping children active and healthy.  Most of all, I believe happy children learn best and motivated and knowledgeable, skilled adults enable this to happen.  I hope you can my approach being played out in our school.

Prior to becoming Headteacher, I previously led PSHE, PE, Early Years and Maths.  As Headteacher, I continue to enjoy being the subject lead for Maths, English (Reading), PSHE/RSE and PE together with being our school's Designated Safeguarding Lead, Senior Attendance Champion and Pupil Premium Lead.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my close and extended family and friends, particularly outdoors, walking, cycling and camping particularly in the mountains or by the coast.

Qualifications: BA (Hons), PG DMS/MA in previous career, Teaching & Learning in HE, PGCE (EY & Primary)/MA Education Practice, NPQ for Headship.
